POEM: ALL ABOUT YOU

BY LORIEN PEREYRA

I don’t remember the first time I saw you

But I remember the first time you saw me

I was captivated by your captivation

Me the buoy, you the sea

I wish I could freeze time

And stand still in the water

But I never learned to swim

And you forgot I was someone’s daughter

You took me in your arms

And I feel asleep to your heart’s rhythmic beat

I didn’t know you’d cast me aside

It was time for your track meet

I saw you that time with her

The girl I never caught her name

You were smiles and giggles

I was left with shame

She captivated you, made you try

A feeling I’ve never known

Two birds fly away

And I’m left grounded on my own
